MVCSD News New Superintendent

Edgewood-Colesburg and Maquoketa Valley School Communities,

The Superintendent of Maquoketa Valley and Edgewood-Colesburg, Dave Hoeger, has resigned his position at the end of the 2023-2024 school year. After receiving notification of Hoeger’s intent to resign, discussions immediately began between the two districts to find his replacement. During these discussions it was agreed that sharing the superintendent position has been a positive experience for both districts, and the decision was made to continue that agreement and work together to find a replacement. Maquoketa Valley and Ed-Co share similar values and expectations in our staff and administration and strive to provide the best educational experience possible for our students, as well as a positive environment for our staff and administration.

During these discussions, Maquoketa Valley’s Board shared that their current Jr/Sr High Principal, Troy Osterhaus, was interested in the superintendent position. After more review and meeting with Troy, both districts recognized that he would be a great candidate for the job. It is the intent of the Maquoketa Valley and Edgewood-Colesburg School Boards to hire Troy as our shared superintendent for the 2025/2026 school year. Troy is not available for that position until the 2025/2026 school year, so a search was started for an interim superintendent for the 2024/2025 school year.

When considering interim superintendent candidates, a unique opportunity presented itself. Kim Huckstadt is currently serving as the Superintendent Certification Program Coordinator for Educational Leadership at UNI and planned to retire from that position in June 2024. Kim has had an impressive and extensive career in Education, and after several conversations and meetings has agreed to serve in the interim position. Kim will start as the interim shared superintendent for Edgewood-Colesburg and Maquoketa Valley on July 1, 2024.

Thank you to the administration and school board members of Maquoketa Valley and Ed-Co schools for their dedication and time spent to make this possible in a relatively short amount of time. We all are looking forward to this next chapter and continuing to be partners and leaders in public education.
