MVCSD News MV ISASP Information – Great News!
The Iowa Department of Education recently released updates to our new online school accountability reporting system called the Iowa School Performance Profiles. As a parent, you can locate this information at iaschoolperformance.gov. This website shows how a school is performing on multiple measures, which is called their “profile.” This profile meets federal and state requirements for publishing a “report card” to reflect our school performance.
The Iowa School Performance Profile includes scores and ratings on a set of accountability measures. Those current measures include:
- Student Participation on State Assessments
- Academic Achievement that measures proficiency and average student scale score
- Student Growth
- Graduation Rates
- Progress in obtaining proficiency with English Language Learner proficiency in reading, writing, listening and speaking
- Student surveys regarding school safety, engagement and the environment
- Postsecondary readiness which includes student participation and scores on college entrance exams, completion of an academic plan, participation in postsecondary or advanced coursework, and percentage of students in Career Technical Education classes.
Each one of these accountability measures has a specific percentage weighting. Our students’ performance on these measures are combined to determine each school’s overall score. Based on our score, schools will fall into one of the following categories:
- Exceptional: 66.31 and above
- High Performing: 60.61 – 66.30
- Commendable: 54.91 – 60.60
- Acceptable: 49.21 – 54.90
- Needs Improvement: 43.96 – 49.20
- Priority/Comprehensive: 43.95 and below

Using these proficiency ratings as well as the other measures discussed above, Maquoketa Valley’s building ratings are as follows:
- Delhi Elementary – Commendable (missed “High Performing” by .02 points). Earlville and Johnston Elementary automatically receive Delhi Elementary rating because K-2 students do not participate in the state assessment
- Middle School – High Performing
- High School – High Performing
If you have an opportunity to peruse the Iowa Performance Profile website, you will take note that our school district has some of the highest proficiency scores and overall building ratings throughout the State. Although an understatement, as a District we are extremely pleased with these results and as superintendent, I am very proud of the work that our staff and principals do on a daily basis to best serve all of our children. Our School Board continues to provide us the necessary resources even though we continue to see less and less revenue from the State. Due to all of this hard work by all members of our school system which have produced these results, we are also happy to share that our Middle School has been nominated by the Iowa Department of Education to the United States Department of Education (USDE) National Blue Ribbon award program. This coveted program recognizes public and private schools on their overall academic excellence. Our district will still need to submit an application to the USDE to determine if we are recognized at the national level. Either way, it is an honor to be one of the schools from Iowa nominated for this award by our State Department of Education.
